The average luxury consumer has never had more access to the inner workings of Fashion Week than she does today. Not only are designers live-streaming images of their collections directly into her brain (well, her computer, anyway), some of them are allowing her to buy next season’s clothes right off the runway.

Bergdorf Goodman teamed up with Jason Wu this season to live-stream his collection on Facebook and bergdorfgoodman.com, with its fashion director, Linda Fargo, running backstage after his show today for a recap interview. And responding to the ever-quickening pace of retail, the store also plans to offer about 10 looks from the collection for preorder, from Sept. 14 to 28, in an online trunk show. Everything in fashion is now, now, now.

“Fashion is very immediate today,” said James J. Gold, the president of Bergdorf Goodman and president of specialty retail for Neiman Marcus. “The customer who was most into fashion always bought early.” The risk for those who didn’t was missing out on the clothes that they really loved.

If they love Mr. Wu’s spring collection, they’ll be after floral-printed short shorts, some transparent sporty parkas and dresses with peplums infused with Pop Art colors (hot pink and chartreuse). The show was held in a second-floor gallery in far West Chelsea with a very narrow staircase at the entrance, and a shingled runway made of squishy white plastic-looking squares. Lea Michele was there, too. But it took forever to get out — so long that you could probably have ordered the collection and taken it home before I got to the door.

 Jeggings are jeans that look like leggings. They provide the comfort of leggings (given the stretchy power of spandex) with the versatility of jeans. Jeggings fit pretty much fit the same way as skinny jeans, but mostly do not have a zipper and have a little more stretch to them. It gives a very comfortable, flattering and springy look to the wearer. You can easily mix and match what you would like to wear on it. It is easy to dress up with a long tank with flats or an off shoulder top with heels. You can even wear them with flip flops or even roll them up so they look like capris.

Jeggings hug you in all the right places and fits, true to size. They are tight but that is how they are supposed to fit.

Things to watch for when wearing a jegging:

It is not a pant in anyway so don’t wear tight fitting tops, tanks or tuck in blouses on it. It takes the grace and balance away and makes one look nothing but awkward. Pair it up with long tunics, loose fitting tops and dresses for the flattering look.
If you are trying one for the first time, go for a darker wash as it would be more flattering and versatile.
Look for the perfect length. If your jegging looks too long in the leg, get it hemmed or look for sizes that run small. They are supposed to look skinny and show your assets. You do not want to be moving around with bulk fabric around your ankles.

One popular brand that makes jeggings is American Eagle. The American eagle jegging ankle is of excellent quality and fits just right. They are perfect for a laid-back occasion, or can be dressed up in some wedges and cute top. Unlike the normal jeggings, the American eagle jegging ankle actually has pockets in the front. When it comes to laptops, as the screen size increases you will notice the life of your battery slowly decreases. The Lenovo Ideapad z470 comes with the Intel’s Core i5 Sandy Bridge processor. This processor wouldn’t set the world on fire but it does its job pretty effectively. Along with the processor this laptop has a dedicated graphics card in the Nvidia GT 525 which has about 2 GB of dedicated video RAM. Now this video card should be able to play most of the latest games at medium to low settings which should be sufficient when you plan to play a few games on the go.

Apart from that this notebook comes with 4 GB of ram which is upgradable to 8GB in case you need it. It features an extremely responsive 1 TB hard drive running at 7200 rpm. This hard drive has pretty good read/write speeds which would make hard disk transfers a breeze. The hard disk comes loaded with Windows 7 Home premium operating system. The mouse touchpad is one of the best as expected from Lenovo. The present webcam is pretty good and would be perfect for video conferences. The only drawback I would find with this laptop would be the absence of a USB 3.0 port.

Apart from that this is a pretty solid laptop which has the perfect blend of performance and mobility. Barring the Alienware M14x there is no 14 inch laptop as good as this.

In Edera, creator Ivy Long channels her love of the handmade and antique into lovely unique jewelry pieces. Read our interview with the woman behind Edera:

When did you start making lace and jewelry? When did your interest in these begin?

I grew up in a creative household where all sorts of supplies were at hand and creativity was encouraged. My mother is a milliner and textile artist, so from a very early age I was surrounded by wonderful fabrics, laces, buttons, beads and trims, and could watch her at work. As a result, I’ve had a lifelong fascination with fiber arts and other handcrafts. In my early teens, I became particularly interested in jewelry making and apprenticed with several jewelry designers while still in high school. About 10 years ago I began crocheting as a hobby.

Shortly after I learned to crochet, while researching period clothing from the Renaissance, I stumbled across illustrations from a lace pattern book first published in 1617 and I was fascinated. The black and white drawings of lace patterns were originally intended for needle lace motifs, but I instinctively felt that they could be adapted to crochet. With no particular goal in mind, I began recreating the intricate patterns using crochet techniques.

From there it was a short step to incorporating beads and turning the lace motifs into jewelry designs, and my business, Edera Jewelry, was born.

While antique and vintage lace patterns were my original source of inspiration, I now design all of the lace patterns featured in my work entirely from scratch, based on sketches and ideas in my head.

What/who are you inspired by? Anything specific? Do you ever find yourself responding to trends?

I find inspiration for my work in lots of different places, but I find I return again and again to art and costume history.

My last collection was inspired by what I called a fairy tale aesthetic and drew inspiration from medieval and rococo textiles and architectural motifs from Versailles. My current collection is inspired by a neoclassical style–the ancient Romans and Greeks by way of the Empire period in France. I seek to capture the opulence and beauty of the past in my jewelry, but updating the application of the techniques and materials so it can be worn today.

While I enjoy reading fashion magazines and do keep an eye on general trends, my goal is to make my work more timeless, less trendy.

On average, how long does it take you to create a single finished piece? Do you make everything yourself, or do you have assistants?

Because of the lacemaking techniques I employ in my designs, they are quite labor intensive. Even the smallest of my designs can take up to a day to create, the more elaborate ones can take a week. I make everything myself in my studio. I do it all by hand, from the creation of the lace, to the embroidery of beads, to the making of hand-linked chains and wire wrapped gemstones. It’s all a labor of love.

Describe a typical day.

My day typically begins with a cup of tea and answering my emails, along with checking my favorite blogs and my various social networks (I promote my work on Etsy, Blogger, Facebook, Flickr and Twitter.)

I create a list of everything I need to accomplish for the day, and after breakfast, it’s typically into the studio. I try to work on custom orders first, some days I can devote entirely to creating new designs. My husband and I both work from home, so it’s nice to take a break in the middle of the day and eat lunch together and discuss our projects.

In the afternoon, I will switch gears and focus on packing up shipments to go out, take care of errands, etc. Then it’s back in the studio until about dinner time. In the evenings I may draw sketches for new designs, look at art books, or sit and crochet as a way to unwind.

Being a jewelry designer/lace maker in Vermont, do you have any thoughts or opinions about the Made in America movement that’s cropped up?

I think we’re now seeing the negative effects of sending so much of our manufacturing overseas, so I’m glad to see movements like the Made in America movement, the handmade movement, and the buy locally movement swinging the pendulum back the other way.

Is there any celebrity or famous person (living or in history) that you would love to see wearing your jewelry?

I think the first famous person who comes to mind would be Marie Antoinette– I’ve always felt an affinity for the fashions of that time period and I think she was a fascinating and complex historical figure.

What do you see in the future for Edera Jewelry, short term and/or long-term? Any exciting projects or changes coming up?

In the short term, I am building an official website for my business, www.ederajewelry.com. I am also in the process of expanding my wedding jewelry line to include more hair accessories. In addition, my designs are going to be featured in an upcoming issue of a national wedding magazine very soon, so I am excited about that. My goals for the long term are to continue creating what I love and to always be growing and improving on my designs.

Two years ago everybody seemed to be making a movie about the fashion world. Now they’re writing a book. Three new biographies of Coco Chanel are coming out, in case you’ve never heard of the lady from the Rue Cambon. There are also a number of designer monographs, quirky memoirs, style tomes and elegant surveys from magazine archives. It’s a huge season for fashion books — huge, as Diana Vreeland would have insisted, herself the subject of a new work.

In fact, I am most curious about “Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel” (Abrams), by Lisa Immordino Vreeland, who is married to a grandson of the legendary editor. Though D.V.’s own accounts remain in print, I expect that “The Eye Has to Travel” will offer new insights as well as a fresh supply of photographs from the period of Vreeland’s dominance.

Abrams’s other fashion books include “Vogue: The Covers,” a survey of more than 300 covers photographed by Penn, Avedon, Meisel and others; “Harper’s Bazaar: The Greatest Hits,” which looks at the pages created in the past decade by the editor Glenda Bailey and the creative director Stephen Gan; “Chanel: Couture and Industry” by the historian Amy de la Haye, who examines the creative output of the house and draws on the collection of the V. & A. Museum in London; “Cristobal Balenciaga: The Work of the Master” by Miren Arzalluz, and “The Wedding Dress: 300 Years of Bridal Fashions,” which also draws on the V. & A.’s collections, as well as letters and memoirs of famous brides. Naturally, Kate Middleton makes the cut.

Fashion has a peculiar affection for dramatic lives, so it’s no surprise there are three Chanel biographies: “An Intimate Life” by Lisa Chaney (Viking); “Sleeping With the Enemy: Coco Chanel’s Secret War” by Hal Vaughan (Knopf); and “Intimate Chanel,” co-written by her grand niece, Gabrielle Palasse-Labrunie (Rizzoli). These join the half-dozen Chanel biographies already in print, including Justine Picardie’s work, which was published this spring. The Chaney and Vaughan books provide documentation of her long affair with Baron Hans Gunther von Dincklage, a German agent during the war, with Mr. Vaughan, who has previously written about war-time spies, suggesting the couturiere was a Nazi intelligence operative. His book is rather efficiently told; you don’t get a complete portrait of this complex woman or the times. The Chaney book purports to have new information about Chanel’s drug use and bisexuality. I had to laugh when I read Bettina Ballard’s remark at a Fashion Group meeting in New York, following Chanel’s controversial comeback in 1954. Dressed in a new Chanel suit, Ms. Ballard, an editor in Paris for American Vogue, said: “Mark my words. This is the beginning of a new thing.” That’s all the fashion people have to hear to forget the rest.

St. Martin’s Press has two books of note: “Searching for Beauty: The Life of Millicent Rogers” by Cherie Burns; and “It’s All About the Dress,” a funny, informative memoir by the Paris-based designer Vicky Tiel, who talks about her romances and friendship with Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor.

Rizzoli has a number of glossy monographs: Marisa Berenson, Rick Owens, Hussein Chalayan, Carine Roitfeld, Gucci, Christian Louboutin and the photographers Cecil Beaton and Deborah Turbeville. And the publisher is offering a collection of essays, “Nostalgia in Vogue,” from the magazine’s monthly column; and “Preppy: Cultivating Ivy Style,” by Jeffrey Banks and Doria de la Chapelle. “Fendi Baguette,” another Rizzoli title, covers 700 models of the famous purse, if you’re not too exhausted.

I’ve tried many different types of water bottle in the past but they’ve all left me wanting more. The plastic water bottles were light weight but would easily scuff and there were reports that some plastic bottles were made from BPA, which has been determined to be a toxic chemical. I moved onto aluminum and stainless steel bottles but they always gave off a metallic taste and didn’t offer any insulation. Enter the Bamboo Bottle. Does it have what it takes to be the best water bottle ever? Let’s see.

The Bamboo Bottle is a very cool product, featuring three types of materials: BPA-free plastic, glass, and bamboo. It comes in five different parts and requires some easy assembly. The reason for the glass water bottle and the bamboo shell outside is that it creates a layer of air between the glass and bamboo, acting as an insulator. If you have double paned windows, they work much the same way. Air is a great insulator.

So how’s it in use? Not bad but not perfect. It is well made and easy to assemble. I really like using glass instead of metal so water doesn’t taste metallic. The bad thing about this bottle is that it only holds 17 oz so it’s not really good for taking on a long hike. It’s also quite heavy for a water bottle since it’s made of glass. If you’re going to be walking around a lot with a water bottle, this isn’t for you. Good news is that it does insulate better than non-insulated bottles but not nearly as good as metal thermoses. You can use hot liquids with this bottle but it becomes too hot to touch so I don’t recommend it for anything other than cool drinks.

Although this bottle has its flaws, I still enjoy using it day to day. It’s definitely one of the more unique looking bottles out there and is perfect for use in an office.
